Data pick of the day: 1 in 4 still watch television via a TV set only

While TV consumption habits have changed thanks to the arrival of OTT players such as Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime, GlobalWebIndex found out that one in four internet users globally are yet to transition away from TV sets and choose to watch only via a TV set. In contrast, 13 per cent of internet users globally report using PCs/laptops, mobiles or tablets, without devoting any time to television sets.

Age matters here as over half of 55-64s say they only use a TV set for television viewing, whereas the millenials (16-24s) are now more likely to watch only on their devices. GWI’s chart also shows that less than a fifth of 16-24s have migrated away from TV sets completely.
