With launch of many affordable smartphones, the number of digital consumers who own a smartphone has risen to 94 per cent, according to GlobalWebIndex’s chart,
In terms of the region, Latin America and MEA are most likely to be smartphone owners. Gloablly, the figure reaches at least nine in ten digital consumers across all regions. GWI also highlights that unlike computers and tablets which have a more affluent user base than average, smartphone ownership is consistent across all income brackets.
By age, younger internet users are most likely to own a smartphone as 98 per cent of millennials do. While the figure falls to 81 per cent for 55-64s; this older group is in fact the only cohort where people are still more likely to own a PC or laptop than a smartphone.
