Data pick of the day: 98% Gen Z own a smartphone

Smartphone ownership in the youngest digital consumers is near ubiquitous as they grew up in the era of mobiles. GlobalWebIndex’s data shows that on an average day, they’ll spend over four hours online on their smartphones and almost all of them (98 per cent) say they own one. Smartphone is the most popular choice when the Gen Z were asked to name the most important connected device in their day-to-day lives, GWI found.

These trends are seen for Gen Zers across all world regions, but there are some key variations to note. It might be almost 80 per cent in APAC and MEA who select their smartphone as their top internet device, but in North America the figure is just over half.
