Data pick of the day: China leads online shopping

Chinese digital consumers are the most avid online shoppers, with 83 per cent reporting purchasing a product online in the past month, according to GlobalWebIndex’s report. The percentage is surprisingly even across all age, gender and income breaks.

GWI highlights that this might be due to the success of home-grown brands such as the ecommerce giant Alibaba. Asia-Pacific presents a huge opportunity for digital commerce as six of the top 10 global markets come from the region. The other markets from the region in the Top 10 list by GWI include: South Korea, Indonesia, India, Taiwan and Thailand.
