Taiwanese airline EVA Airways has launched a social media contest targeting Malaysian travellers who dream of visiting America.
The online contest, titled “Chapati in the USA”, is conceptualised by EVA Airways’ social marketing agency Kingdom Digital. The objective is to help the airline create awareness about its flight routes from Kuala Lumpur to multiple destinations in North America.
To help kick-off the contest, EVA Airways has released a short promo video on its Facebook page. The video tells the story of a Malaysian man who loves everything American, so he decided to dress head to toe in clothing inspired by the USA flag and go about his daily life – but with an American twist. For example, ordering a chapati then turning it into a pizza; taking a photo with the iconic KL Tower but posing as Statue of Liberty; and instead of playing football, he turned it into American football.
Similarly, contestants need to snap a photo of themselves doing Malaysian things but in an American way (for example, eating durian with fork and knife, or putting ketchup on roti canai) and post it in the comment section of the contest post on EVA Airways Facebook page, along with the hashtags #ChapatiintheUSA and #EVAAirMY.
The winner with the most creative photo will receive two return flight tickets to any destination in North America that EVA Airways flies to. This contest will end on 31 October 2017.
Au Yong Yoon, Assistant Manager at EVA Airways, said they hope this social campaign will inspire and ignite the interest of Malaysians to experience North America themselves.
“At EVA, we give travellers the ease and convenience of more flights between Malaysia and North America than any other airline in the region. In addition, our passengers will be able to experience the comfort of our award-winning services, top safety ranking, as well as state-of-the-art entertainment system. There is no better time than now to plan a trip to North America,” Mr Yoon added.
EVA Airways currently operates over 80 flights per week between Malaysia and North America, with round-trip deals as special as MYR3,160. Through just one stop in Taipei, passengers will be able to fly from Kuala Lumpur to Chicago, Houston, New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Vancouver, and Toronto.
