Facebook draws 1 billion users in a day

The social networking site Facebook reached a new milestone on August 24, 2015 as one billion people used the platform, the largest for a single day.

Mark Zuckerberg, Founder, Facebook wrote in a post on his profile, “On Monday, 1 in 7 people on Earth used Facebook to connect with their friends and family. When we talk about our financials, we use average numbers, but this is different. This was the first time we reached this milestone, and it’s just the beginning of connecting the whole world.”

In the second quarter results, Facebook highlighted that in June, approximately 968 million people used the platform on an average day, an increase of 17 per cent compared to last year. This daily number represents 65 per cent of the 1.49 billion people who used Facebook during the month of June.

Daily active users were 968 million on average for June 2015, an increase of 17 per cent year-over-year. Mobile daily active users were 844 million on average for June 2015, an increase of 29 per cent year-over-year. Monthly active users were 1.49 billion as of June 30, 2015, an increase of 13 per cent year-over-year.
