How #Ramadan unfolded on Twitter

Over 1.6 billion people across the world celebrated Eid al Fitr / Lebaran and the end of Ramadan this weekend. Throughout the month of Ramadan, social media remained the platform for conversation to come across and celebrate the festival.

Throughout the holy month, there were over 8.4 billion impressions of Tweets about Ramadan on Twitter and syndicated across the web.

A heat map by Twitter that shows the global conversation around Ramadan that took place on the platform during the past month, highlights that SE Asia had the most conversation globally on the festival throughout the month.

Rotana (@Khalejiatv) used Periscope to give an exclusive and real-time look into the holy city of Mecca (or Makkah) allowing viewers to experience key moments as they happened, such as daily and evening prayers.

Indonesia, the largest Muslim-populated country, celebrated the month by sharing Ramadan-related content. According to the heat map, the country had one of the highest number of conversations around the festival on the platform, besides Malaysia.

India, Bangladesh and Pakistan also had a lot of conversation around the festival during last month.
