PHD China appoints James Zhu as MD for its Shanghai office

Continuing to expand its senior management team, PHD has appointed James Zhu as Managing Director of its China headquarters in Shanghai. A results-driven leader, Mr Zhu will focus his efforts on elevating PHD’s offering in providing complete marketing solutions for its clients.

Mr Zhu joins PHD after nine years at WPP, most recently as General Manager at Wavemaker and previously Partner at Mindshare. His comprehensive experience covers a range of different categories, with a particular focus on banking and travel, having developed valuable skills in integrated, content and data marketing.

“The Chinese market is constantly changing, and agencies need to keep learning and adapting their offering to fit the market’s needs. It’s important to always be engaging in conversation with clients in order to dig out their emerging challenges, fully understanding them and helping to create competitive advantage by doing things differently. I’m happy to be joining PHD whose very ethos is just that—finding a better way,” said Mr Zhu.

PHD China CEO, Anna Chitty, commented, “We are thrilled to welcome James onboard. He brings a wealth of experience and industry knowledge to our team and we know he will help our clients’ business continue to thrive.”

The appointment comes as the agency faces fresh growth, including the recent win of HSBC’s global media duties. Mr Zhu will also work closely with Chitty to ensure the agency retains its market-leading position, having been named China’s most-awarded media agency by the Gunn Media 100 earlier this year.

The appointment is effective July 17.
