Starting Monday this week, Samsung has a new regional marketing director, Digital & Social Media. The consumer electronics and technology products company has hired Dell’s online director – Asia Pacific & Japan Damien Cummings to fill this newly created role. The reason: Samsung is looking to become very strong in social media and digital media marketing. Cummings mandate is to drive the company to be top in its social media and digital media activities.
Cummings comes to Samsung with an extensive experience of managing online presence. He has led or has been involved in many of Dell’s social media sales and marketing initiatives in the region. Explaining his new role in his blog, Cumming writes, “This is a newly created role that comes with both a lot of expectations and a fair degree of aspiration. I aim to help transform Samsung into a digital powerhouse.”
According to him, he plans to drive Samsung’s digital business in such a way that this number one brand in Asia is recognised as a leading social media and digital media marketing company. “My ambition is that Samsung will be recognised as the leader in social media and that the digital marketing bar will be raised well and truly to global best practice level,” he further writes.
