Sizmek elevates Damien Thomson to APAC GM role

Sizmek, the independent buy-side advertising platform, has promoted Australian and New Zealand Country Manager, Damien Thomson to General Manager APAC, leading the company’s operations across the Asia-Pacific region.

Mr Thomson brings over sixteen years experience in the media industry, holding senior management positions for leading technology, media and agency organisations in the region. He will be responsible for the fifteen markets that Sizmek operates in across Asia-Pacific, including Australia, China, Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, India, Indonesia, New Zealand, Korea and Taiwan to name a few.

Mr Thomson has previously held senior management positions at Facilitate Digital (now Adslot) in Australia and in Asia, and was also APAC Executive Vice President for SintecMedia (now Operative), a large broadcast management technology company. He has led several broadcast and digital teams in the APAC region, working with clients such as Seven West Media, SBS, Foxtel, GroupM, Publicis and Westpac. Prior to joining Sizmek, Thomson was the Managing Director of independent media agency, Benedictus Media in Australia.

In his role as General Manager, he will be responsible for managing the company’s operations across the Asia-Pacific region, including sales development and innovation, customer engagement, strategic planning, and revenue growth. He joined Sizmek in September last year, initially taking the role of APAC Financial and Commercial Controller before moving into the ANZ Country Manager position.

Mr Thomson believes that programmatic advertising is growing rapidly in the Asia-Pacific region, and marketers are looking for independent partners to help them simplify the complex digital landscape. “We view the Asian market as ripe for growth as consumer use of digital and mobile media presents new challenges for marketers seeking to deliver relevant, personalised messaging across a myriad of platforms. Our mission is to provide customers with a single platform to enable their data to gain a better understanding of their audiences, optimise their creative for more impactful interactions, and elevate their media execution to drive more value across the entire customer journey,” said Mr Thomson.

In addition, Sizmek has promoted senior sales executive, Phil Murrell to the position of Country Manager for Australia and New Zealand. He has more than thirteen years experience leading high performing teams in both London and Sydney for a mixture of publishers and technology companies, including Virgin Media and Real Networks. In his role, Mr Murrell will lead the company’s large ANZ business and focus on growth and regional strategy development.
