Out of the over four billion daily video views on Facebook, 65 per cent of which happen on mobile, Kiwis’ consumption of video is a big contributor with almost one in two Kiwis on Facebook watching videos on the platform every week.
According to Nielsen, there are now over 2.5 million Kiwis active on Facebook every month. Of this group, 2 million use Facebook every day, indicatinf how much Facebook is a daily, integral part of their lives.
The data highlights that young adults and mums are the most active on the platform. About 85 per cent of people aged 18-24 and 82 per cent of mums said Facebook was a part of their regular, daily activity.
Mobile is the first screen for Kiwis as 1.6 million users access the platform everyday on-the-go with a mobile device as their primary touchpoint.
Over one in two Kiwis also use Facebook as a regular companion while watching television. This figure is especially higher for mums, with two in three mums dual screening some, most or all of the time when watching television.
According to the data, Facebook helps 80 per cent of Kiwis discover brands thus driving more traffic to the brands’ websites. While many Kiwis say they use Facebook primarily to stay connected with friends and family, nearly eight in 10 also make product and brand discoveries while scrolling through their Newsfeed. Of this, over half would find out more about the product by either sharing or talking about it on Facebook or going on to learn more on the company’s website.
