FB adds food delivery options & friend recommendations to Pages

Over 60 million businesses use Facebook Pages each month around the world and the Pages are visited by more than one billion people. Last year, Facebook added call-to-action buttons that allowed businesses to respond to customers and manage their communications in a better manner.

In a bid to attract more SMBs, Facebook tweaked its Pages further to include new call-to-action buttons on Pages to allow people to shop now, get a quote and request time. Businesses can choose to add the new buttons to their Page and provide customers with a simple form to complete.

These new features will help business like a pizzeria or a diner to accept orders right from the Facebook pages itself. A company blog post explains, “For instance, if you run a pizzeria, hungry customers will be able to review your menu, make their selection and complete their order with you, directly from your Page. If you operate a spa, potential customers will be able to review your services and book an appointment with you, directly from your Page.”

Facebook has partnered with some existing service providers for this such as delivery.com, HomeAdvisor or MyTime. There is a ‘Start Order’ option which accepts orders with delivery.com or Slice; a ‘Book Now’ option which allows users to book appointments with HomeAdvisor, MyTime and other services; a ‘Buy Tickets’ option to sell tickets with Eventbrite or Ticketmaster; and a ‘Get Showtimes’ option to provide show schedules and sell tickets with Fandango.

While these integrations are currently available only in the US, more third-party services will be added in the coming months.

For businesses which are not using any of Facebook’s integrated partners, they can use Messenger for the similar call-to-action buttons.

Facebook has also introduced the friend recommendation service for Pages. Users can now create posts asking for recommendations from friends and they will have the option to include relevant Pages in comments and post these recommendations on a map.
