SapientNitro’s James Chiu heads to Razorfish China

In a bid to bolster its creative offer in the Greater China region, digital and technology agency Razorfish has appointed James Chiu (Chiu Mang Hoo James) as its Executive Creative Director for China. Mr Chiu was most recently a Creative Director at SapientNitro, responsible for leading the Experience Studio across its London and Germany offices.

In his new role, Mr Chiu will lead Razorfish China’s 40-person creative team that works across businesses such as Nike, PepsiCo and Tourism New Zealand, conceptualising campaigns that breed brand-consumer interaction and developing experiences that transform clients’ businesses.

Mr Chiu brings significant expertise in innovating how brands connect with consumers through multichannel experiences. His work has been awarded and recognised by the likes of BIMA, FWA and Webby. His professional experience spans pure play digital, integrated and above-the-line agencies, where he has directed and crafted multichannel, commerce, brand, marketing and campaign experiences for marketers such as Ray-Ban, Marks & Spencer, Net-a-Porter group, Max Factor, adidas Originals and Levi’s amongst others. He has co-founded Camohood, a niche limited edition streetwear e-commerce retailer in 2005.

“James is part of the new generation of creative leadership. Completely comfortable working in multimedia channels and formats, his design methodology is driven by results. In China, where social and ecommerce are the highest priority growth areas for us, he is an especially great fit. We are excited to have him lead our regional creative team,” commented Razorfish’s CEO, Esther Yang.

“It’s a huge priority for us to equip our worldwide network with the resources needed to service our global clientele. While technology is continuing to shape the new ways in which people connect, it’s the application of creativity that pushes the limit of each touchpoint. Hiring world class creative talent is essential to help our clients remain at the forefront of innovation,” added Daniel Bonner, Global Chief Creative Officer at Razorfish.

“As the world continues to change through technology and creativity, consumers and their relationship with brands can no longer be disparate. Every experience with a brand — be it in the form of commerce, product, service or marketing — needs to be a continued one. My experience across London, Italy and Germany has enabled me to understand and appreciate cultural nuances and work with a diverse group of clients to build deeper connections with their consumers through their brand experiences. I’m extremely excited to join Razorfish and to drive business transformation for our clients through great and innovative creative work,” remarked Mr Chiu.

A Hong Kong resident until 2002, when he moved to the UK to study at London College of Communication – University of the Arts London and Loughborough University – Mr Chiu has relocated to China and is based out of the Razorfish Shanghai office.
